10 Kimetsu no Yaiba Anime Characters Based on Japanese Mythological Creatures Part 1
Most anime almost uses Japanese mythological creatures as the basis of their characters, including the famous anime Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. The similarity of these characters can be seen from their appearance or strength.
And here are the anime characters of Kimetsu no Yaiba which are based on Japanese mythological creatures.
1. Susamaru - Asura
Susamaru is a demon with extraordinary physical strength, and can grow two additional pairs of arms. His Blood Demon Art grants him the ability to summon a Temari orb that can be thrown to finish off enemies.
The demon Susamaru is modeled after Ashura, a terrifying demon god from Japanese folklore, with multiple faces and arms. What they have in common is that they both have extraordinary powers.
2. Yahaba - Tenome
Yahaba is a demon with eyes in both hands. The power of his demon blood, grants him the ability to produce arrows that can manipulate the force of direction.
The demon Yahaba is based on Tenome, a type of evil yokai with an eye in hand. Tenome has a habit of eating the bones of her victims and leaving nothing but piles of skin.
3. Kyogai - Raijin
Kyogai is also known as the Drum Demon. This one demon can manipulate and control the room in his house using the sound of his drum.
Kyogai is modeled after Raijin, the Japanese god of thunder who is able to bring about storms.
4. Tongue Demon - Akaname
True to its name, it is a tongue demon with a long protruding tongue. The power itself is still around the tongue that can be manipulated into a long, fast and sharp.
Tongue Demon is based on Akaname, a dirt-licking yokai in Japanese folklore who lives in the bathroom.
5. Spider Family - Tsuchigumo
The Spider Family is a group of devils with spider-like traits and abilities.
These demons are based on the Tsuchigumo, a race of spider-like yōkai in Japanese folklore.
As one of the successful anime series, Kimetsu no Yaiba succeeded in taking several Japanese mythological creatures in some of its characters.
The character designs and abilities they have are also interesting, in my opinion it is like updating the mythological creature to be more modern and of course very cool.
Curious what characters take references from other Japanese mythological creatures? look forward to the second part!
