“Demon Slayer: Endless Train” is Supposed to Cause DVD Sales to Drop in Japan

The Japan Video Software Association has released DVD/Blu-Ray sales figures for the first half of 2022 as sales fell 19.7% year-on-year to just 55.82 billion yen. The reason for this decline is considered to be related to the movie “Demon Slayer: The Endless Train”.

  The Japan Video Software Association said that the film itself created a trend of going to theaters to watch instead of buying DVDs to take home.

Anime DVD’s total sales were 11.82 billion yen, down 54.6% year-on-year. 

DVD sales have exploded in 2020 before the movie “The Demon Slayer: The Endless Train” was released at 18.67 billion yen. 

Many viewers also assume that when online platforms began to grow, it was also another root cause of Anime DVD’s decline in sales.
