“Mimi O Sumaseba” – Whisper of the Heart

The official website for the live-action film project “Mimi o Sumaseba” (Whisper of the Heart) , based on the same title manga by author Aoi Hiiragi has announced a special video for the film. The video includes scenes from the film and interviews with the two main actors, Nana Seino and Tori Matsuzaka.

Nana Seino will play Shizuku Tsukishima, while Tori Matsuzaka ( Samurai Sentai Shinkenger ) plays Seiji Amasawa. Runa Yasuhara and Tsubasa Nakagawa played Shizuku and Seiji respectively when they were in middle school.

Yuki Yamada plays Tatsuya Sugimura, Shizuku’s childhood friend and baseball team member, who has a crush on Shizuku. Rio Uchida plays Yuko Harada, Shizuku’s best friend, who had feelings for Sugimura in middle school. Towa Araki and Sara Sumitomo played the role of Sugimura and Yuuko when they were in middle school.

Yuichiro Hirakawa will direct the film, and Sony Pictures Entertainment and Shochiku will distribute. Anne Watanabe will perform a cover of the popular folk song “Tsubasa o Kudasai” by Michio Yamagami.

The film will be released on October 14.

The story of the new film is set 10 years after the story of the original manga. Now 24 years old, Shizuku has given up her dream of becoming a novelist, but still works hard every day selling books as a children’s book editor at a publishing company. Meanwhile, Seiji is still pursuing his dream abroad, even as the distance between him and Shizuku widens.

Hiiragi published the series in Shueisha’s shoujo manga magazine Ribon in 1989.
